If there were ever a time when a hotel liquidation sale would be welcome, it is now when so many flood victims may need basic furnishings to start over with or get them through tough times.
I'm talking about bed frames and mattresses, draperies, tables and chairs, sofa sleepers, carpet and mirrors.
And the good news is that all of these things can be bought for a pittance at a sale just set up by Global Hotel Liquidation Service and a company called the Green Team.
The sale is in a warehouse at 406 Harding Industrial Drive off Harding Place and Interstate 24. The furniture and décor comes from five area hotels, including the Downtown Nashville Sheraton, Loew's Vanderbilt Plaza, Holiday Inn Vanderbilt, Marriott Vanderbilt and Doubletree as well as a Charleston S.C. Renaissance hotel and miscellaneous other properties.
The prices are so low that you'll wish you needed something even if you don't.
To give you an idea, the headboards are $15, and king or full mattress and box spring sets are $60. There are hotel desks for $15 and handsome wooden storage cabinets for $20. Club chairs with ottomans start at $25 and sofa sleepers for $115. I saw framed art for $5 and $10, mirrors for $10 and $15 and even a few conference tables, industrial fans and vinyl wall at $25 a roll.
A great deal was a $25 cabinet that would be a dorm room dream — it had two long drawers in the bottom and on top there was a built in mini fridge that locks and space for a television.
"The thing I like about it is that this is all good quality. This is the ultimate in recycling,'' said Mike Green, whose Green Team company specializes in hospitality solutions such as hotel remodeling and installation projects.
"The prices reflect the quantity, not the quality," said Justin Bowen, with the Global Hotel Liquidation company. "They are removing a floor a week (at the 472-room Sheraton), and so there's a lot of merchandise to churn.''
One of the best deals in the warehouse would be the draperies and sheers, which are $10 a pair. Yes, 10 bucks will get you a pair, not just a panel. The sheers are clearly a cut above average and the drapery panels are huge — 9 feet three inches-by-14 feet ten inches — and are lined. "These are very expensive drapes,'' Mike said.

Sure enough, when we unfurled a panel for closer inspection, he was absolutely right about the quality. Anyone with a little imagination could quickly see that these high-end drapes could easily be cut to fit just about any window and would also be a steal for other projects such as duvet covers, upholstery, pillows and more.
The sale is cash-and-carry, no checks, no credit cards and no deliveries. Sales tax is included in the prices, making the deals even better.
Hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Fridays, with a special Saturday opening today and on May 22 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The warehouse is a little hard to find but if you turn off Harding Place onto Harding Industrial Drive and take the first right into an industrial area, you will find the sale at the back next to Sun Chemical. For best Mapquest results use 3203 Old Ezell Road, which is the address of a house next door to the sale. Plus, they promise to have signs out to help you find the sale.
